Fullbleed
A Safari extension that lets web pages use the whole width of the iPhone Duo's front screen, one site at a time.
On the front screen, Safari keeps its buttons in a vertical strip on the right and lays pages out beside it. That leaves a blank band behind the controls. Fullbleed gives the page that band back.
Three modes for each site
- Off
- Safari's own layout.
- Backdrop
- The page background and fixed bars (headers, tab bars, banners) reach the right edge. Text and buttons stay clear of Safari's controls, and in-flow images and headers keep Safari's width. The default for new sites.
- Full
- Everything, including text, uses the full width.
What else it does
- A small button in the strip steps through Backdrop, Full and Off for the site you are on. It hides while a site is set to Off; the mode picker in the extension menu, or the Sites list in the app, turns it back on.
- Fullbleed remembers the mode for each site.
- Shortcuts actions and a Control Center toggle switch it on and off.
- Nothing leaves your phone. See the privacy policy.
On Apple Watch
Fullbleed has a watch app that opens any site from your wrist in the watch's own web view. The sites you set up on the iPhone show up on the watch with their modes, and pages you open on the watch stay in a Recent list there. Hand Off passes a page to Safari on your iPhone, where Fullbleed widens it on the front screen. Typed addresses work without the phone nearby.
Fullbleed only does something on the front screen of an iPhone Duo. On the inner display and on other iPhones it leaves pages alone. It does not work on every site; the support page explains how to report one.
